The winner of the latest World Poker Tour event, this time held in Venice, is one Sven Ragnar Astrom. Astrom took down the post – WPT Championship event of Season VII in this brand new event which had a €4,400 buy in. The victory was worth €397,960 for Astrom. The rest of the top five winners were Per Martin Jacobson for €238,840, Vincent Pasdeloup for €159,740, Michael McDonald for €109,540 and Michele Slama for €86,720. Considering the turn out and the popularity of the WPT series and the Venice event in particular, it is a safe bet that this event will replay next year.

The Florida Legislature has approved further expansion to the state of poker. The expansion includes the abolition of a maximum buy-in for No Limit and bets per round for Fixed Limit.

The $100 maximum buy-in for no-limit poker games in Florida has been eradicated as the state updates its gambling legislation; there is now no maximum buy-in now. Also gone is the $1000 tournament buy-in ceiling, opening the door for the possibility of high stakes WSOP poker.

Bill SB 788 was the subject of contentious negotiations this week between Florida’s State Senate and House. Once a consensus version had been hammered out, the Senate first passed SB 788 by a vote of 31-9, while in the House, the vote was 82-35. <

The Soroptimist International of Santa Clarita Valley (SISCV) is putting on an evening of poker with celebrities, prizes, food and drink on the agenda. The event will run Saturday, June 6 at the Westridge Horizon Clubhouse, where players will face off against poker pros and celebrities in a Texas Hold ‘Em Tournament to raise money for the SISCV. The SISCV seeks to help women and girls locally through their Community Outreach Program. Throughout the history of poker you can only name a few people that have literally helped change the way the game was played.  The way the game has been changed has been through things like extensive research (such as David Sklansky) and those who have contributed books to the poker world that were truly unique (such as Doyle Brunson, who also is arguably the greatest ambassador the game has ever had).
